Outsource blogging tasks: how to get more done in 2024

Running a blog can overwhelm you because of the multitude of tasks that lie ahead.

You must manage guest posting, email marketing, content writing, link building, website development, keyword research, and more.

Your time is limited. Knowing what to do first and what to do later can be challenging. This is particularly relevant when you’re developing a blog while working 40 hours a week in your regular job.

So what if you delegate a number of these tasks to ensure continuous growth around the clock, rather than only making headway after work hours?

That way, you can effectively run your blog as a company. And you can focus on the most impactful activities instead of merely creating content pieces.

So in this guide, we’re going to discuss how you can outsource blogging effectively

    Why outsource blogging?

How much time do you spend writing blog posts? You should be publishing at least 2-3 blog posts per week if you want to build a successful blog. And that would require you to write for at least 20-30 hours a week.

Even if you have that much time, and you are spending 20-30 hours a week writing, you won’t have enough time left for managing and marketing your blog.

You won’t be able to engage in tasks like guest posting, link building, and email list building. These activities are just as important, if not more, to grow your blog, along with updating old blog posts and social media marketing.

Now, if you think you can do this all by yourself, you’re kidding yourself. To be a successful blogger, you must act like a business owner, not a writer. And as a business owner, content writing is not the only thing you should be doing.

So how can you make the most of your limited time and run your blog like a pro? How do you ensure that your blog reaches 100k visitors in months, not years?

You outsource blogging. In a survey by Content Marketing Institute, 88% of marketers report outsourcing content creation.

By being efficient with your time and focusing on what you do best, you can scale your blog and reach your blogging goals fast.

Blogging tasks you can outsource, and how to delegate them

Outsourcing blog writing tasks can streamline your workload. Content creation, such as writing posts and designing visuals, can be delegated to skilled freelancers. And managing SEO strategies, social media promotion, and editing can be entrusted to experts.

    Link building

When it comes to promoting your blog, no other activity is as important as link building. Once you are sure that your blog is getting filled with great content on a regular basis, then building links should be your next main priority. This is also known as off-page SEO.

What are backlinks? When another website mentions your blog with a link, that link is called a backlink. And this backlink goes in your favor because it acts as a vote. The other website is basically vouching for you.

So if you can get more websites to link to you, the more votes you will have. And the more votes you will have, the more trustworthy you will appear to people and search engines. And the more exposure you will get from them.

A 2020 study by Backlinko found that pages with the most backlinks rank the highest in Google.

So you can write all the content you want. But without backlinks, your blog posts will have a slim chance of being found by your target readers.

But link building is an activity with many moving parts. And you can’t do it all alone. That means you must find someone to outsource link building.

The ideal person or agency should be able to help with all aspects of link building, including guest post writing, email outreach, and content partnerships. His responsibilities will include:

    • Identifying relevant websites and reaching out to their content managers
    • Suggesting guest post topics
    • Collaborating with editors to get your posts published
    • Writing and editing content for their websites

Your link builder should have the skills to edit content as per varying voices and build relationships online.

With someone available to handle your guest posting, you will be able to secure more guest blogging opportunities in less time without being directly involved in the process. Here’s how to collaborate with your link builder:

Create a custom email address for your link-building assistant to use only for email outreach. Then share the criteria based on which he will find the websites to target.

Next, work with him to prepare an email template to be used for pitching guest posts. Armed with the email address and template, your assistant can now start pitching guest posts.

Once an editor responds to your pitch, you’ll need to identify some good topics to suggest. You can do this yourself, or train your link builder on how to find guest post topics that are more likely to be accepted.

When a topic is approved, the link builder sends it to a guest post writer along with any other instructions provided by the target website. The writer completes the draft and sends it back to the link builder, who can then submit the guest post.

    Content writing

This is where you’ll probably be the most hesitant. How can you trust someone else to write what you have in mind? Well, it turns out you can outsource blogging, with proper planning.

I am not saying you should outsource all the posts you want to publish on your blog. There will certainly be topics that you’ll want to write yourself. But there are also those you’ll be better off delegating.

For the pieces you are outsourcing, it’s still possible to maintain full control over what is being said in them, along with saving precious time.

For example, let’s say you want to create a 2500-word blog post. Your options are:

A: Plan, write, and edit it yourself. This will easily take 5-10 hours.
B: Plan it yourself, delegate writing, then edit it yourself.

In the second option, you have planned and outlined the post. So the writer has a clear understanding of the information he should cover. And the total of your time spent on the post will probably be 2-4 hours.

Now, how can you outsource blog writing? Many blog owners use platforms like Upwork and Fiverr for this purpose. This may be okay in the beginning but I don’t see it as a viable option in the long run.

The writers available on these websites can be unreliable and the quality of their work is questionable. It’s better to hire someone who can work with you for years and is serious about delivering professional work on a consistent basis. A great way to hire such as writer is the ProBlogger job board.

Job postings for a writer on the ProBlogger job board

Hundreds of good writers flock to this board. You’re more likely to find someone to outsource blog writing who matches your unique needs. When posting your requirements on this job board, make sure to add essential information such as:

    • What’s your business?
    • What is your blog about?
    • Who’s your target audience and what’s your niche?
    • How much content do you need every week?

Also, mention that whoever applies should share their writing samples and rates. Within a few days, you’re going to get many applications. Now’s the time to scan through them and find the candidates who are suitable for your niche and budget.

Once you’ve shortlisted a few writers, you can test them with a paid assignment. Share a content brief with them and ask them to write a blog post according to that brief. Then make your decision based on how they perform in the assignment.

You should hire someone who not only writes well, but also communicates well and delivers his work on time.

    Guest posting

If you want to grow your blog, you’d not just be writing blog posts for your blog. You’d also be writing a ton of guest posts.

So how can you squeeze the writing of all these guest posts into your schedule? Simple! You outsource them.

Referral Rock conducted a survey in 2021 to learn what marketers do when it comes to guest blogging.

They found that 48% of them don’t do the writing themselves. This means that around half of the bloggers outsource their guest post writing.

The process of hiring a guest post writer is similar to hiring a content writer to outsource blog writing. So you can refer to the same information that I have covered above.

As you evaluate your options, make sure the ghostwriter you hire has expertise in your chosen niche.

Otherwise, their lack of experience and exposure to the topic will be evident in their writing. And it won’t create a good impression in front of editors who review your content.

    Web development

When I first started blogging, I made many mistakes. Blogger.com was a very popular blog platform at that time. So I started my blog there.

But once I understood Blogger.com’s limitations, I started working on moving my blog to WordPress, a blogging platform that has stood the test of time.

Over the years, I have also switched between many WordPress themes, plugins, hosting providers, and other blogging tools.

And every time I have switched from one thing to another, it has taken me some time to remove the previous tool and configure a new one. I have also had to learn to customize and make minor tweaks to my blog.

All these things have made me appreciate the importance of a developer working with you when you outsource blogging. A developer can save you time by helping with technical tasks like:

    • Troubleshooting issues with your hosting provider
    • Customizing your blog’s theme and plugins
    • Finding new ways to improve website performance
    • Implementing monetization and conversion optimization strategies

Considering all these benefits, outsourcing web development is better than trying to figure all these things out by yourself.

Don’t get me wrong. You may not need to hire a developer in the initial stages. Setting up hosting, installing a simple theme, setting up essential plugins — you can probably do all these things on your own.

But once your blog starts growing, so will your customization needs. At this point, make sure to outsource the technical aspects of blogging to someone who knows what they’re doing.

    Final thoughts

Outsourcing your blogging activities can be a game-changer for your business. Imagine freeing up your time to focus on what you do best while a professional writer crafts engaging content and a link builder promotes that content.

By outsourcing, you tap into expertise that ensures your blog posts are not only well-written but also SEO-optimized, helping to drive more traffic to your site.

Plus, it brings fresh perspectives and ideas that can revitalize your content strategy. You don’t have to worry about writer’s block or finding time to post regularly; the consistency and quality are handled for you.

In the end, outsourcing blogging isn’t just about offloading work—it’s about strategically enhancing your brand’s voice and reach. So, why not take the leap and let the pros handle your blog? You might find it’s one of the best business decisions you ever make!
